Homeless Animals during the Holiday Season
Wayfarer's News

(This article effectively raised thousands of dollars after being published.)

As we all make plans to enjoy our families and friends this holiday season, it's a good time to reflect on the puppies and kittens hoping for new homes while staying in our kennels. These animals did not ask to be abandoned by their families, and we look forward to the day when all of them can be assured a safe, loving, and happy home.

In the meantime, we continue to give them daily care and to do as much as we can for them. It costs on average of $105 to care for each of the 8,500 dogs and cats that comes through our doors each year. Of the $60 adoption fee we receive, $55 goes toward neutering, testing, and inoculations. That means we must raise over $100 for each animal in order to continue caring for them. Since we depend on private donations for 100% of our funding, we must ask for your support.

Many of you have already been generous by taking an SPCA pet into your family and giving them untold affection and care. We deeply appreciate the lifetime commitment you have made to these animals. As you think about the less fortunate during this season, please also consider giving your support to the animals who remain in our shelter.
